The Joelouis Mattox Collection was donated to the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America in 2020 by David Jackson at the request of Joelouis Mattox. The collection contains materials for a novel by Mattox titled “Gemini Lover From Bernstine Alley”, specifically manuscript files and two scrapbooks that Mattox compiled of correspondence, photographs, clippings, and a bound version of the novel. The majority of materials date from approximately 1964-1981. All files and scrapbooks have been kept in their original order and retained the original file names that Mattox gave them, with the exception of the biographical information. Mattox was a longtime historian of Kansas City's Black community.
